ANTONYMITY

Nothing to say really, just very cool.

Having entered the Guinness Book of World Records last year for producing the world’s smallest stop-motion animation, Nokia and Aardman Animation have followed up with an impressive attempt to claim the record for the world’s largest stop-motion animation. A great animation though it is, it’s the ‘making of’ documentary that provides the real wow factor.

Following in Nike’s footsteps from a few years ago, Vans have collaborated with the fabled Harris Tweed to develop an Asia exclusive version of their classic chukka boot. There will be three variants - each using a particular weave from the Harris islanders’ looms - and all will be highly sought-after when they drop in Japan later this year.
They will be available through ESPIONAGEKICKS in November and I, for one, will be close to the front of the virtual queue.

Brighton-based photographer Dan Mountford has a real gift for producing double exposure portraits - not just technically - but in how they seem to tell a story about the individual being captured for posterity.

For thirty years now, Depeche Mode have been stalwarts and innovators of the electronic/industrial music scene, with many acts citing them as influences. Equally, they have always understood the power of strong video production as their long-standing collaboration with Anton Corbijn testifies.

Still releasing original and critically acclaimed material today, their videos continue to blaze-a-trail as this incredible promo by Patrick Daughters shows. Banned by many TV channels for the dark narrative and disturbing imagery, it is a perfect interpretation of the song and still gives me goose-bumps when I watch it two years on.

WARNING: Not viewing for the faint-hearted.

Brought to us by F/Nazca and Saatchi & Saatchi as part of Nike’s ‘Good Stuff’ campaign, this advert is a harrowing portrayal of addiction, using all the cues and edits you’d expect from a hard-hitting public awareness film. In this case, the drug is running.

So, with NASA mothballing the Space Shuttle program last month (and with it the dreams of generation), it has been revealed that NASA and DARPA are convening leaders to study the possibility of interstellar flight within one hundred years.
The so-called 100 Year Starship Study Symposium will bring together some of the biggest brains in the world to work on the problem of how to fire humans towards Alpha Centauri by the beginning of the next century. The major stumbling block so far? Convincing people to commit to working on a project that they will never see come to fruition.
To boldly go where no man has gone before (but only if I can watch).
